A MALE nurse has been charged with the attempted rape of a 16-year-old patient.
The 44-year-old nurse, who works at Job Shimankana Tabane Bleskop Hospital, appeared briefly in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The patient was asleep on 21 February when the suspect
allegedly went to the ward and tried to undress her. The patient screamed and the accused allegedly grabbed her by the neck. Other hospital staff, including security guards, rescued the girl. The nurse, who cannot be named because he hasn’t pleaded to the charge, was granted R1 000 bail and is expected to appear again on 25 March.
Tebogo Lekgethwane from the department of health said they were aware of the incident but said they were still waiting for a report from the hospital management to confirm the details of the incident and actions against the nurse.
