Live performances are my bread and butter — Bez on October 24, 2014 / in Entertainment 12:19 am / Comments

By ANOZIE EGOLE

Emmanuel Bezhiwa Idakula, known as Bez in the music industry, is probably the only Nigerian multi-instrumentalist of his generation, singer-songwriter and composer, working in a genre known as “alternative soul”, a hybrid of soul, rock, jazz and RnB.

WG caught up with the Nassarawa State-born Glo ambassador recently and got him taking about his music, his recent tour of Rwanda and his upcoming album. Excerpts”

You recently returned from a tour to Rwanda where you played at the Kigali Up Festival concert for Peace. What has the tour impacted on your image as a musician and entertainer?
*Bez

Bez

First of all, let me start off by thanking all the fans in Rwanda who came out for our shows in Gisenyi and Kigali. The opportunity to visit other African cities always shows you the power of music, its ability to bring us all together. At a point, we try to express our art and live a dream and you never know how far that art can go. I live in Lagos and write my songs here, but I don’t know that people in Rwanda could sing along with me too. The folks at Rwandair and Afrogroov made it happen. They were amazing hosts to us.

How was the trip from beginning to the end?

They were very open to my music, it was nothing short of amazing. As a country, they have been to the brink and back and you can still sense the resilience amongst the people. It’s a beautiful country with amazing topography and the folks there are so laid back. Sometimes it reminded me of what Jos used to be like when I was younger. Nigerian music as a whole is very popular there and my own brand of Naija music was very welcome and celebrated.

How would you compare the music scene in Rwanda to what is obtainable here?

The modern music scene is burgeoning in Rwanda, they have had a long love for traditional music and musicians, now the younger musicians are crafting their own brand of music, and infusing it with sounds of hip hop and RnB. I happened to do a show with an amazing American based Rwandan singer called Iyadede, and I am hoping we can make something happen together in the future.

How is your marriage working out?

Fine, January will make it a year, my plans on marriage is to stay happily married. I have been blessed with an amazing wife and it’s been a joy building the foundation for what we pray will be a fulfilling life together. One day we will be blessed with children and even grandchildren.

After the success of your 2011 album Super Sun, what next should we expect from Bez?

I have been working on a new album for over a year now, it’s been a long process, but rewarding nonetheless. The goal is to capture the growth and evolution of an artiste. Most of the instrumentation on the album is live and so we have recorded here in Lagos, in New York, Houston and we went to my village in Nassarawa to also do some recordings with some traditional musicians.
BezIt was so exciting for me to go home to Karu and be able to reflect some our traditional music in my recordings. In Houston I worked with amazing horn players and percussionists, one of them even plays in Beyonce’s band. The style of my music is not going to change much though there will be sligh more rock edge to it. I also co-wrote a number of songs on the upcoming album with X3m Music artiste Simi, you have probably heard her new single “Tiff” and Omolara Ayodele. Cobhams Asuquo is at the helm of affairs in the production of the album.

When specifically will you drop the album and where?

In this region, probably second quarter of 2015

Do you think that marriage has slowed you down and come between your making good music?

Not at all, in fact, I would say that marriage has quickened my pace. Music to me is a calling, it’s my life’s work so I have to move really fast in this space in order for things to work out well. I have been on the road, as you know, live performances are the bread and butter for any artiste. I spent this time introducing a whole new fan base to my music, establishing a base in East Africa. On November 1st, I am scheduled to be in Spain and the U.S. Work and shows have been going on well.

Are there any collaborations on your new album?

Yes there are

What are your plans for Bez the brand?

Very good question. My top goal is to keep churning out amazing music and growing a fan base for my brand of music. I intend to focus on more music videos from this upcoming album. We do have some interest from foreign markets so we are currently following up on those requests. We intend to stay the course and keep the energy high during our live performances and give the fans a show every single time. Its called show business for a reason.

Champions League: Barcelona seek redemption, PSG to consolidate on October 21, 2014 / in Sports 2:59 pm / Comments

Dejected Barca players

Manchester City continue their search for a first Champions League win this season when they face CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, while Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are among the sides in action elsewhere.

AFP Sports looks at all the fixtures in Groups F on Tuesday:

Group F

APOEL V PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (1845 GMT)

French champions PSG have yet to lose in this campaign despite rarely performing anywhere near their free-flowing best from last season. However, they were outstanding in defeating Barcelona 3-2 three weeks ago and are fresh from a 3-1 win against Lens in Ligue 1 on Friday.
Coach Laurent Blanc is still without Marquinhos, Ezequiel Lavezzi and talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic but skipper Thiago Silva returns to the squad for the first time since suffering a thigh injury more than two months ago.

APOEL, who ran Barcelona close in defeat and then drew with Ajax last time out, famously beat another French side, Lyon, on penalties in the last 16 in 2012. Giorgos Donis’s side are usually strong at home and are unbeaten in five since losing at the Camp Nou.

BARCELONA V AJAX (1845 GMT)

These clubs are meeting for the second consecutive season in the Champions League, with Barcelona hoping for a repeat of their 4-0 win over Ajax at the Camp Nou in September last year. The Catalans have won seven out of eight games in La Liga this season and are yet to concede a goal domestically, but they lost 3-2 at PSG in their last Group F outing and may have one eye on Saturday’s trip to face eternal rivals Real Madrid.

Ajax drew 1-1 at APOEL three weeks ago and have not won any of their last eight away matches in the Champions League. The Amsterdam club, whose coach Frank de Boer was a team-mate of opposite number Luis Enrique at Barcelona over a decade ago, are unbeaten in eight games but drew 1-1 at Twente in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The visitors will perhaps be relieved that this will be the last game of former Ajax star Luis Suarez’s suspension for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

By Sam Eyoboka

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday, defended the national president of the Christian Association, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, following the controversy surrounding the seizure of $9.3 million arms purchase funds by South Africa.

Pastor Adeboye who spoke in London during an ecclesiastical visit said, “Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor is a man of God I trust and I can personally vouch for him. I believe on the issue of his aircraft being chartered and the purpose it was used for he had no prior knowledge. I’m sure God will continue to build his church and the gates of hell will not prevail in Jesus name. One anointed cannot attack another anointed. A pastor cannot attack another pastor. Touch not my anointed is what God said. Some Nigerians have questioned the use of Pastor Oritsejafor’s private jet by the Federal Government to convey the money to South Africa, accusing him of involvement in money laundering.”

The Federal Government had to come out in defence of the CAN president, arguing that Oritsejafor who is also the founder of Word of Life Bible Church has no hand in the deal. The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan (Public Communication), Dr. Doyin Okupe, told newsmen in Abuja: “Oritsejafor is the President of CAN and head of all Christians in Nigeria who is representing at least, 50 per cent of people in this country. When it comes to a man like that, people should be cautious and circumspect.”

Okupe also advised Nigerians to stop playing politics with every issue of national concern, saying it is not in tandem with patriotism.

OWERRI—Uneasy calm has enveloped the sleepy, rural Ehume autonomous community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, following the gang-rape of an 11-year-old girl.

Vanguard gathered that the girl (names withheld), who hails from Amaiyi, Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, but resides at Ehume with her parents, was raped when her parents sent her to the popular Onuimo Rescue Market, Umungwa, Obowo.

Vanguard was told that the girl decided to take a commercial motorcycle to and from the market.

“That was how she boarded the motorcycle piloted by 35-year-old Onyekachi Nwankwo, a native of Umunachi, Obowo,” the girl’s father told Vanguard.

The obviously angry father also said soon after the suspect picked Ngozi at the entrance to the market, he told her that he intended to pick his friend, Chike Njoku, who was waiting for him at Ekeja Market in Ehume, Obowo.

he said: “My daughter innocently agreed. The story suddenly changed when Onyekachi picked his friend, veered off the road into a track leading to the boundary river between Umunachi and Umuagu communities at Obowo.”

Explaining her experience in the hands of the rapists, the girl said: “When I saw all the weapons they were holding, I had no option than to follow them.

“They parked the motorcycle inside the bush, pulled off my dress and had sex with me, one after the other and left me to my fate thereafter.”

Efforts made to get a confirmation of the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, proved abortive as his mobile line could not be reached at press time.

How Nigeria defeated Ebola on October 21, 2014 / in Health 6:38 am / Comments

By Sola Ogundipe, Chioma Obinna & Gabriel Olawale

Ninety three days after the American Liberia Patrick Sawyer imported the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD into Nigeria, the nation is officially Ebola-free.
Announcing the declaration yesterday, the World Health Organisation said 42 days had passed since the nation last reported a case. By the time the last case was reported on September 5, 2014, Nigeria had recorded 19 cases with eight deaths and 11 survivors.

Findings by Good Health Weekly, revealed that early preparation, proper coordination and a unified response and implementation plan, were crucial to the nation’s success in winning the war.
HEALTH PERSONNEL IN PROTECTIVE KITS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY (12/8/14).In what was described as by the WHO as “world-class epidemiological detective work”, Nigeria’s immediate and rapid response to the Ebola threat was triggered off with identification of the index (first case), Patrick Sawyer, and subsequent isolation at the First Consultant Medical Centre, Obalende in Lagos.

Public health emergency

First was the declaration of the Ebola out break as a public health emergency in the country. As a follow up, the Federal government through the Federal Ministry of Health, and in collaboration with the Lagos State government, set up an effective overall coordinating Ebola Emergency Operations Centre, EOC.

The response team comprised of the FMOH, WHO, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Medecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). private companies, UNICEF, and the Lagos state and Rivers State health ministries, among others.

The training of local doctors and other responders was carried out with despatch even as adverts and requests for qualified medical staff were issued regularly to the public. Each suspected Ebola case was thoroughly investigated and treated on merit.

A robust contact tracing system in Lagos and Port Harcourt ensured that virtually every contact of all reported Ebola cases was identified, tracked down and closely monitored. The dedicated follow-up, supervision and regulated public enlightenment mechanism was deployed to manage the panic caused by the Ebola outbreak.

Managing the public fear and anxiety was one of the main challenges of the response, especially as it was the first time Nigerians were witnessing such outbreak

Sustained social mobilisation on the warning signs and prevention methods in the form of social-media messages, were deployed to improve education and awareness and also to demystify the myths surrounding Ebola.

There was heightened vigilance and screening at the nation’s borders which were kept open but screening of inbound and outbound passengers was stepped up significantly, even as preparations were being made to increase facility and manpower capacity in the event of more patients.
Reacting to the declaration of Nigeria as Ebola free nation, President, Association of General Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, AGPMPN, Dr. Anthony Omolola said it was welcome.

“WHO declaration is a welcome development for our country and it shows that when we are committed to doing anything we can do it well. Our effort in curtaining Ebola has remain a sample to the world. We need to commend all the health workers, the government in the manner in which the situation was reacted to and also the media need to be commended for their enlightenment role and dissemination of information at appropriate time.

“As the WHO is declaring us free, we should not forget those that had sacrificed their lives in ensuring that the country did not experience greater calamity,” he pointed out.

Corroborating their views, Immediate Past President, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr Osahon Enabulele, said: “This shows that if the right support is given to the health sector and the players who are responsible for leadership play their part, Nigeria can begin to make move towards strengthening our healthcare system and all other countries are now learning from Nigeria’s experience, which shows that there are actually potentials that can be explore if there are some level of sincerity and leadership commitment. So the development is laudable and I think Nigeria can begin to look at other areas of healthcare and not just be responding to crisis situation alone.”

Also speaking on the development, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Pharm Olumide Akintayo said it was well deserved but cautioned against the country resting on its oars. “For once, response was very prompt and highly commendable. I have no doubt that this is recognition is merited but it is not time to go and sleep.

We must continue to put on the table, the finest tenets of professionalism.”“Akintayo who worried over the porous nature of the nation’s borders called for even greater alertness. “Let us give kudos to the Federal government and the Lagos State government. However, we must continue our surveillance and monitor people coming in from the endemic zones, namely Sierra Leone and Liberia to a large extent.”

The Immediate Past Deputy President, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Comrade Rasheed Tonade noted that for WHO to say Nigeria is Ebola free, judging from the fact that there has not been any case of Ebola in the last three weeks was a welcome development.   “I can agree to it because available statistics have proven that.

There is nothing like Ebola now in Nigeria.  We are only hearing about Ebola in US.  I believe Nigeria should be declared Ebola free.  We are up to the task but we should expand our treatment strategies to forestall future occurrence or outbreak as a nation. Our seaports and airports and other borders should be regularly and effectively monitored not only for Ebola but for other diseases that people may bring in from either land borders or any other border.”

Catholic priests fight dirty in Mbaise on October 21, 2014 / in News 7:47 am / Comments

*Parishioners of Saint Hilary’s Parish, Amaukwu Orodo in a prayer procession seeking for divine intervention to the attacks on priests
By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—The schism, which has been trailing the appointment and consecration of the new Bishop of Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Okpalaeke, by the Papacy, took a more dangerous dimension weekend, as priests allegedly got entangled in what people described as a dirty battle.

Vanguard investigations revealed that Rev. Fr. Januarius Chima Ahaneku went to St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, Nnarambia, at about 7.15p.m., following his posting to the parish by the Vicar General of the embattled Diocese, Rev. Fr. Clement Ebii.

While Fr. Ahaneku was accused of storming the parish with thugs and assaulting the resident priest, Rev. Fr. Marcellinus Nweke, Ahaneku, however, said he was there on legitimate posting.

Nweke confirmed that he had to alert the police and the people when his brother priest allegedly exhibited an act unbecoming of an ordained Catholic priest.

He said: “They started harassing us, using hammer and some iron bars to break the doors and gained entrance. Some of us even sustained injuries. I dislocated my left shoulder.”
Continuing, Fr. Nweke alleged that the police recovered pump action rifle, double barrelled gun and an electric shocker from Fr. Ahaneku and his friends.

Fr. Ahaneku’s story

In his own account, Fr. Ahaneku, who is a son of Nnarambia, said although he presented a letter from the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Clement Ebii, deploying him to St. Brigid’s Parish, as an Acting Parish Priest, he never attempted the use of violence as claimed by Nweke.

He explained that the men, who were arrested by the police as thugs merely accompanied him to the Parish, to assist him settle down with his belongings.

He said: “The Parish Priest left without the knowledge of the Vicar General/Delegate of the Diocese. So, I was detailed to go there and take care of the souls of the parishioners. I did not go there with a thug at all.”

Continuing, the obviously angry priest recalled that “when Fr. Nweke came out, we greeted each other and I explained my mission to him and he said he was not informed of the posting and insisted that the Vicar should call him.

“The Vicar General called him severally but he refused to pick his calls.

“I took him to my car and showed him my authority: the letter I was given. After reading it, he said there was no trouble.”
Continuing, the priest recalled that as he was trying to move his personal belongings into the parish house with the help of his friends, Fr. Nweke started making calls.

Ahaneku said: “They first raised false alarm to the police that some armed robbers invaded their house.

“In a matter of minutes, several people stormed the place. A lot of them were carrying machetes and other dangerous weapons.

“I wanted to leave in my vehicle but my brother priest stood in front of my car, insisting that I will not move an inch. In order not to smash him or commit any crime, I left the vehicle there,” Fr. Ahaneku recounted.

The Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, which Fr. Ahaneku drove to the parish was badly vandalized by the alleged angry youths and was still in the custody of the Church at press time.

Vicar-General’s confirmation

Reacting also, the Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Ebii, however confirmed that Fr. Ahaneku had his approval to report to St. Brigid’s Catholic Church.

He said: “Fr. Ahaneku was sent there officially to go and do pastoral work. He had a legal paper from me.”

Meanwhile, Imo State Police Command has appealed to the Administrator of Ahiara Diocese, who doubles as the Archbishop of Abuja Ecclesiastical Province, His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis bedevilling Ahiara Diocese, since the death of Bishop Victor Chikwe.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who made the passionate appeal, while reacting to the mayhem unleashed by some supposed parishioners in St. Brigid’s Church, Nnarambia.

He said: “It is most shocking that priests can get to this level. The Catholic Church and its priests are supposed to show good examples for others to follow.”

Ethiopia FA denies Keshi on October 21, 2014 / in Sports 12:46 am / Comments

Keshi was reported to have opened talks with the EFA to take over the country’s team.
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi“I spoke with the EFA president Juneidin Basha yesterday (Sunday) on the report of Keshi taking over and he said the EFA have not received any application from Keshi for the EFA job,” Mandefro explained.

“Mariano Barreto remains the coach of the Ethiopian national team. Even though he is not doing too well right now, the EFA have not mentioned anything about sack.”

Meanwhile, Coach Stephen Keshi has said he would rather take a break than take up a new coaching job immediately after he was shown the door by Nigeria.

Okon explains why Falcons are winning on October 20, 2014 / in Sports 12:02 am / Comments

 Edwin OkonBy Ben Efe, Windhoek
Super Falcons coach, Edwin Okon said his selection of players was based only on individuals who are hungry for success and it was the reason the team has faired well at the 9th  African women championship so far.

With only two games to go, coach Okon is optimistic that the Super Falcons will achieve their objectives in the tournament, which is to qualify for the FIFA Women World Cup and win the trophy for a record nine times. He attributed the team’s doggedness to the winning mentality of the players. “I only selected players who are hungry to play and not those who do not feel challenged. During our camping in Abuja there were local and foreign-based tested players we had to drop, because they weren’t up to the task.

“If you look at the team; we have mostly home-based players. This is because I believe in exposing grassroots talents who are yearning to make a name for themselves and country ,” said Okon

The Falcons were the least prepared team for the AWC. They only had two weeks of serious work as a team compared to Ghana who had a playing tour of Japan and South Africa that had a series of warm-up matches ahead of the tournament.

“We didn’t have the kind of preparation we wanted partly due to the unsettled nature of the NFF back in September. But our chances are very bright against our rivals like Ghana, South Africa and Cameroon.”

“I am even shocked by the level of their form in the AWC. However, we won’t take things for granted because this is football. We are not going to rest on our oars,” Okon said.

Meanwhile Namibia coach, Jacqueline Shipanga tipped Nigeria for the title adding that the Super Falcons have proved that they are top contenders.

“The Nigerian team is full of experienced players. They will go far in the tournament and I wish them good luck at the world cup.”

IMO GOV RACE: Why I want Okorocha’s job —ARARUME on October 20, 2014 / in News 2:06 am / Comments

*Okorocha

By Soni Daniel

Abuja—A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Imo State, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, has advanced reasons he was running to take over the mantle of leadership of the state from Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Ararume pointed out that the inability of successive governments in the state to resolve the lingering development challenges facing the people propelled him into the governorship race.

He said: “I really want the opportunity to be able to salvage the “heartland of Igboland.“ For me, I had the aspiration first in 2007 but it didn’t work out

Personal interest guided Keshi’s players’ selection — NFF on October 19, 2014 / in Sports 12:36 am / Comments

Keshi and Amaju

BY BEN EFE, Windhoek

A member of the Nigeria Football Federation disclosed more reasons why coach Stephen Keshi’s contract was not renewed by the federation.

The official who is part of Nigeria’s delegation to the ongoing African Women Championship in Namibia, alleged that some of the players Keshi invited to the national team, were those he had personal interest in.

“We found out that some of the players he invited were those under managers close to him.

“He was taking risk by not inviting players on merit. This was not very good for our football

“He did not have the interest of the nation at heart. This is one of the reasons the NFF had no option than to let him go.” said the NFF member here in Windhoek.

Last Thursday the NFF decided against renewing Keshi’s contract, which expired after the World Cup. After he won the Nations Cup for Nigeria and took the country to a second round finish for the first time in 20 years, Keshi’s interest on the job seem to have waned, he was called upon by the Sports minister, Tammy Danango to fill the gap for the Nations Cup qualifiers, but that seem to have worked against the country as Keshi, despite the fact that team continued to struggle, left out some players who many Nigerian fans believed could have helped the team’s qualification campaign.
Nigerians were clearly not happy with his decision to shut out some players. His excuses were untenable. But because we didn’t want to interfere, we let him carry on and now we are back on a familiar trend of basing our possible qualification on permutations.”

He said a player like Kelechi Iheancho was too young to play for the Eagles. When it was obvious the Eagles lacked a creative midfielder. But how old was Keshi when he was invited to the national team. These are some of the things we could not come to terms with,” said the NFF member.

How they used Jonathan’s name to dupe us — UNIPORT students on October 19, 2014 / in News 12:43 am / Comments

By Wale Akinola

Is a top official of the Presidential Villa, Abuja (names withheld) involved in a case of extortion lodged by some students of University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) and for which two suspects are now being held by the police, or was it simply a case of impersonation?

Jonathan-hands-head

This is a puzzle for the police to resolve after the President of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students, (NAAKISS), Rivers State Chapter, and a law student of UNIPORT, Udo Odud Joseph, and his colleagues in the association, alleged that the top Aso Rock official’s name was used to extort them of N480,000.

The bait was the N20 million allegedly donated by President Goodluck Jonathan to NAAKISS in aid of the inauguration of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sir Bassey Dan Abio, as the association’s Grand Patron.Jonathan-hands-headJonathan had been invited to the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, and especially for appointing Abia, an Akwa Ibom indegene, as the NDDC chief helmsman.

The two suspects were said to have been arrested on Friday, September 19 by operatives at Asokoro Police Station, Abuja as they attempted to collect another N560,000, being the balance of the N950,000 described as public relations money to facilitate the release of the N20million allegedly donated to NAAKISS by the president, from their victims.

It was not clear if the suspects were still being kept by the police.

Sunday Vanguard also could not obtain their statements to the police.

Meanwhile, the top Aso Rock official, whose name was used in the scam, denied involvement.

A report on the alleged scam by the NAAKISS leader, Joseph, for the attention of Jonathan, was reportedly copied to the Chief Security Officer to Mr President, Mr Gordon Obua.

Obua could not be reached to comment on the matter at press time.

The report, according to a source, however, insinuated there might be an insider’s collaboration in Aso Rock in the scam, notwithstanding the top official’s denial of involvement.
The students association leader narrated their story in the 54-paragraph report made available to Sunday Vanguard.

“I, on behalf of my association made a publication on Vanguard Newspaper of Monday, 11th August, 2014 on felicitation/appointment of our illustrious son, Sir Bassey Dan Abia as our Grand Patron”, Joseph wrote.

He continued: “On Tuesday 12th August 2014, one Mr. Timi Ekiyo, who introduced himself as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the MD of NDDC called me.

“He said the MD of NDDC asked him to call me regarding the publication of our association of Monday 11th August, 2014 to thank me. That I will be called later.

“After a week or so I called the said Timi Ekiyor and to ask him that the executive members of NAAKISS RSUST Chapter wanted to present a formal certificate of appointment to the NDDC MD as our Grand Patron.

“After some days, the PA (Timi Ekiyor) called and told me we should write formally and request for audience but put the date not later than 14 days precisely 3rd of September, 2014.
I also sought the advice of the said PA (Mr. Timi Ekiyor) that we intended to invite dignitaries to grace the occasion for us. He asked me to carry him along.

“Since we expressed our thanks to Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in our publication in newspaper for appointing our illustrious son, Dan Abia, as the MD of NDDC, we decided to invite Mr. President to grace the occasion.

“The DHL report of who received the letter of invitation of Mr. President: Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, as our Special Guest of Honour is hereby attached and marked exhibit 8. In the DHL report attached, is one Muyiwa that received the letter from the DHL personnel. From my conversation with the DHL personnel, I was made to understand that letter from DHL is usually received at the pilot gate at the Villa, State House, Abuja.

“On 29th August 2014 somebody called me on phone. He said our letter of invitation to Mr. President dated 18th August, 2014 had been received by the president. However, he said the president will not be able to attend the occasion because that date is a state council meeting day but he has approved N20m for the Association, as his own support. “I then asked him: `who are you?’ He said he is a top Presidency official (names and designation withheld).
I further asked him: how do we get this support from Mr. President? He said we had to go through the Accountant -General of the Federation.

“The first thing I did was to inform one of our outside Patrons, Elder Justus Ekere, staying in Abuja to investigate for me the following information:

(a)Whether there is a designation as that of the State House official.

(b)If so, what is the name?

( c)Whether if the president makes this kind of support to the association, the official was supposed to be aware.

Our Patron, with the assistance of his friend who works in the Villa, confirmed the information to be true.

.The following points made me to believe:

(a)The caller pin pointed my letter of invitation to Mr. President dated 18th August, 2014 which was not published but sent through DHL and could not have been known by anybody except an insider.

(b)The existence of the position of State House official which the caller said he is and was confirmed by our Patron Elder Justus Ekere with the help of his friend who works in the Villa to be true.

(c )The name of the official which the caller said is his name was also confirmed to be true.
(d)That the official was in position to treat such case was also true and confirmed.
(e)That the Accountant – General is also in position to pay the money.

‘Public relations’
“It was in line with this belief that I called the `official’ through the number he used to call me to guide me on how to go about collecting the N20m.
The ‘official’ told me that he knew that we are students and that it may not be easy for us to be coming from Port Harcourt to pursue the payment. He then informed me that he will help to arrange the payment, but we must do PR otherwise for one year that money will not reach our hands. I told him whatever is the PR they should deduct it from the N20m when they pay.
“The `official’ told me that in the Villa, every PR is paid cash. That is because many people had shown untruthfulness to them. After helping them to get what they want they show them their back.
“He told me that he would see what he could do but we should let him find out how much PR the people wanted to bring out the support of

24 Hours after ceasefire: Boko Haram kills 18 in Borno on October 19, 2014 / in News / Comments

By Jide Ajani, Johnbosco Agbakwuru and Ndahi Marama

Barely 24 hours after the Federal Government and Boko Haram brokered a ceasefire deal on the Islamist group’s terror campaign in the North-east, an attack, suspected to have been carried by the sect, yesterday, left eight dead.

The attack took place around the hilly communities of Dzur in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.

In an earlier development, suspected Boko Haram insurgents, Friday evening, killed 10 persons in an attack in Malamfatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, bringing the number of people killed in the two attacks at the weekend to 18.

Federal Government officials were, yesterday, unwilling to comment on the attacks amid the truce talks.

However, one of the officials, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, said: ”Our attitude is simply wait and see.”

Meanwhile, sources said that the alleged killing of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, and the attendant effect on the operations of the group may have forced it to negotiate with government.

It was equally learnt that President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid may
have played a role in the latest efforts to resolve the Nigeria–Boko Haram conflict.

Sunday Vanguard learnt that government’s calculation was that the resolution of the Boko Haram insurgency would be viewed favourably by Nigerians to Jonathan ahead of his declaration for second time.
The release of the more than 200 students from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, kidnapped by Boko Haram in April, more than 180 days ago, also featured prominently on the truce talks held in Saudi Arabia.

The eight persons killed in yesterday’s attack around the Borno hilly communities included motorists and passengers whose vehicles were reportedly ambushed by insurgents.

Ambush

Dzur is a mountainous community harbouring terrorist camps along the Biu- Garkida- Gombi- Yola road where the late Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, and some other people were ambushed and killed by suspected Boko Haram gunmen early this year.

Just two weeks ago, some insurgents stormed Shaffa community, about 10 kilometres from Azare, the council headquarters, and killed over 20 people including a pastor of Living Faith Church, Eluid Gwamna Mshelizza, who was slaughtered on his way to his house after delivering a sermon at about 10pm in the community.
jonathan-boko1In that attack, no fewer than six churches were razed while several houses and shops all belonging to Christians were looted and destroyed.

A motorist, who narrowly escaped yesterday’s attack, Mallam Yakubu Ali Biu, told our correspondent that the assailants, numbering over 50, armed with rifles and rocket propelled launchers, barricaded the highway and opened fire on motorists and passengers from Biu to Yola, which led to the killing of eight persons while many others sustained gunshot injuries.

On how he escaped, he said, ” My brother, it is by the grace of God that I and some passengers survived. I was coming from Biu to Gombi when I sighted motorists running into the bush and in different directions. I began to hear sound of gunshots. I quickly made a U-turn back to Biu. A taxi driver who overtook me on the road around Tashan Alade was among the victims”.

A residents of neighbouring Shaffa community, Mr. Mwajim Anjili Balami, told our correspondent on phone in Maiduguri that the insurgents came through Kwokshar village and were trying to enter Shaffa.

“As I am talking to you now, residents have run away

Wenger defends Ozil treatment on October 16, 2014 / in Sports 12:44 pm / Comments

Arsene Wenger Photo: Arsenal.com

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said Thursday the club had done nothing wrong in allowing record-signing Mesut Ozil to play on during a Premier League defeat at Chelsea despite complaining of a knee problem.

Scans carried out by world champions Germany during recent Euro 2016 qualifiers saw Ozil diagnosed with a “partial rupture of the outer band of the left knee joint”.

The former Real Madrid playmaker has subsequently be ruled out for up to two months.

There had been reports veteran French boss Wenger ignored concerns from both Ozil and Arsenal’s own medical staff in keeping the player on during an eventual 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

But Wenger, speaking ahead of Saturday’s game against Hull, said: “He (Ozil) told me that once it was discovered on the scan. He did not tell me anything during the game, I did not even know.

“What happened was that at half-time, just before we went out, the physio told me ‘Ozil has a little pain with his knee, but it is not bad’.

“He wanted to go on and I told him ‘if you don’t feel well, tell me and I will take you off straight away’. He never did that during the whole game, and after I left him on because we were in a position where we needed to score a goal and he can deliver the final ball.

“Then after the game, he went to Germany. With Germany, they thought at the start it was nothing.

“We played on Sunday, on Monday he was off, and on Tuesday they gave him the day off. He was supposed to practise on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday morning, he said he could still not practise.
“They sent him for a scan, and in this scan they discovered that he has a knee ligament injury which is quite serious.”

Ozil is not expected to return to action until the start of 2015.

Wenger added: “That is the only positive, that he will get the rest that he had not maybe enough after the World Cup.

“Although I must say, I gave them until August 11, Germany played the final on 13 July, that was a month and should be enough after a big competition.

“He is out for a while now, I think at least six weeks.

Abia: Orji’s difficult options on October 16, 2014 / in Politics 8:03 pm / Comments

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
Governor Orji is the only PDP governor in the Southeast that is yet to give an inclination on his succession plans. The challenges before him are many. The option of choosing merit over zoning is turning into an issue.
Weeks to decisive primaries for nomination of candidates into elective office by the two major political parties, the whiff of conspiracy is all over the air.

A number of governors across the country have taken up statesmanlike position to push forward the principle of rotation as canvassed mainly by the constitution and the dominant party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Orji: In the valley of decision

It is thus no surprise that in Ebonyi, Governor Martins Elechi, against the consideration of close associates and reportedly even of some family members, has championed the emergence of Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu from Ebonyi South as his successor. In Delta State, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has expressed his desire to handover to someone from Delta North Senatorial zone, the only zone in the state that is yet to produce a governor.

In Plateau, the permutations on zoning remains a mystery and Governor Jonah Jang, a man of prayers is said to have taken up the issue with God in prayers, albeit to no avail.

The zoning permutation in Abia State, however, has taken a life of its own with stakeholders, associates and foes of Governor Theodore Orji taking varying positions on the succession battle.

Despite pressures from interested associates, the governor has been unrelenting in his support of power shift to Ukwa Ngwa area of the state saying at one time that it was a matter of justice.
“No section will be marginalized in Abia. Ukwa/ Ngwa have never been governor, what is wrong in allowing them produce a governor? A lot of people from other zones have come to me to say, I want to be governor and I will tell them straight away this is my stand,” the governor said at one time.

“Equity demands that the right thing should be done. They may hate me but within me, I am convinced that I am doing the right thing. Our party, PDP believes in power rotation and sharing according to political blocs. I want you people to help me, I don’t like if I convince people on this when I come to this zone, I will start having problems. I will not like to have any problem in this zone. What we know is Ukwa/ Ngwa. It is open for you; go and contest. Any person who emerges as the guber candidate of our party from this zone, we are going to support that person,” the governor reiterated.

Among the more formidable aspirants from Ukwa Ngwa are Senator Enyinninya Abaribe, a former deputy governor of the state, the minister of labour and productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, Chief Marc Wabara, Dr. Okeize Ikepazu and Senator Nkechi Nwaogu.

Also in the race from Ukwa Ngwa are Chief Chris Nkwota, Uzo Azubike, Friday Nwosu, Okey Emuchay and Chief Eric Nwakanma.

However, the push for a consensus on an Ukwa/Ngwa successor to the incumbent in Abia has lately turned into a crisis even among the Ukwa/Ngwa fold with the people divided along senatorial zones. The Ukwa/Ngwa people are found in the Central and Southern senatorial zones of the state. Given the earlier advocacy by the governor on power shift to Ukwa/Ngwa it was no surprise that some interested politicians from central and most prominently, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu entered the fray.
Senatorial districts

Senator Nwaogu has been able to mobilise some stakeholders to project zoning as being between the Old Bende and Aba divisions and not along senatorial boundaries. It is an argument that remarkably made the governor to come out to openly state that zoning should be based on senatorial districts. That stance according to sources has led to acrimony between campaign officials of Senator Nwaogu and the governor and it is no surprise that senior administration officials and the Nwaogu campaign now do not see eye to eye.

But even more remarkable is the fact that the failure of the Ukwa Ngwa people to find some sort of harmony on zoning has led to an upsurge of aspirants from outside Ukwa Ngwa land with the emergence of formidable candidates from other parts of the state who are asserting the use of merit above other considerations in the choice of a successor.

Among the heavyweights from outside Ukwa Ngwa that have come into the fray are Chief Uche Ogah, the founder of Masters Energy, Dr. Alex Oti, the managing director of Diamond Bank, two men that are said to be capable of tilting the game especially given the amount of money they can mobilise in the venture.

The emergence of such formidable aspirants from outside Abia South is now raising questions as to the intention of the rich and influential politicians from Abia North and Central who it is being feared may decide to force the governor to abandon zoning for the sake of merit.

The contention by those against zoning is that the state would be the better for it if the best man is picked to push forward the achievements of the outgoing administration and are pressing for an unhindered primaries open to every one.

Interestingly, a number of the stakeholders are said to be close to the governor and could be in position to influence him from within his family.
While the two other PDP governors from the Southeast, Elechi in Ebonyi and Sullivan Chime in Enugu have openly anointed their successors, Governor Orji is apparently still weighing his options and is as such yet to take a decisive step on his successor. But his determination to have a say could not have been better pronounced with the decision to appoint the deputy chief of staff in the Government House, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya to chair the 11 man State Congress Committee which is to guide the election of delegates to produce the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for Abia State.

At least for now, it is known that Governor Orji would want to have a say, but on who, what and where he pushes the party machine remains a mystery for now.

Boko Haram will not threaten Nigeria vote – Attahiru Jega, on October 16, 2014 / in News / Comment

Nigeria can hold elections in February even if Boko Haram violence makes voting impossible in parts of the northeast, the country’s elections chief told AFP, arguing that the disenfranchisement of thousands of people would not undermine the entire vote.

Attahiru Jega, who heads the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said he was preparing to organise polling in the three states under emergency rule because of Islamist attacks.

Based on current security assessments, the 57-year-old former academic said it was “inconceivable” that unrest could prevent voting throughout Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

But even if the security services ruled out polling stations in areas where the crisis is most intense — including much of Borno and parts of Yobe — the overall credibility of the vote would remain intact, he added.

“I want us… to get one thing clear: not doing an election in one state, it is unlikely to affect the outcome of the election nationally,” he said in an interview in Abuja.

Boko Haram is believed to be in control of more than two dozen towns and villages in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa although the situation could change significantly before polling day on February 14, 2015.

The United Nations has said that more than 600,000 people have been displaced by the conflict and will face huge challenges to return to their home districts to vote.

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to declare his re-election bid in the coming weeks and analysts say the conflict-wracked northeast will vote overwhelmingly against him.

Human rights lawyer Festus Keyamo agreed with Jega that the de facto disenfranchisement of tens of thousands of likely opposition voters would not necessarily nullify the presidential result, especially if the margins are wide.

But, he said, Senate and lower house results in the affected areas would be invalid.

Some analysts have voiced concern that securing the northeast on election day will require a massive military deployment, leaving other flashpoint areas vulnerable, especially the religiously divided central states which have seen political violence before.
– A cleaner election –

Jega is one of a handful of public officials in corruption-ridden Nigeria who is broadly viewed as impartial and perhaps even incorruptible.

He earned a doctorate in political science from Northwestern University outside Chicago and held an array of academic posts in the West and Nigeria before Jonathan appointed him to head INEC in 2010.

While the 2011 general election was marred by irregularities and hundreds were killed in post-poll violence, Jega was applauded for organising a reasonably credible process in a nation of 170 million people with just a year to prepare.

But he said the widespread fraud last time round was unacceptable and must be eliminated in 2015.

Voter registration was a mess, he said, with millions of dead people still on the electoral roll and inadequate voter verification systems.

Voter cards were bought and sold, ballot papers stolen from one district and taken to another, he continued.

Biometric registration, colour-coded ballots and other systems will ensure “that 2015 general elections will be much, much better than the 2011 elections”, he said.

There however remains a huge amount of rot in the system and too many politicians still “want to win by hook or by crook”, he added.
INEC has evidence of election fraud against more than one million people but lacks the resources to prosecute them.

Jega said he expected some candidates to attempt foul play again in 2015 but pledged that his staff was ready to crack down.

“What we did was learn where the gaps were and then tried to ensure that these gaps are blocked so no one can exploit them again,” he said.

Electricity consumers want N750 fixed charge scrapped on October 16, 2014 / in News 1:25 pm / Comments

Some Electricity Consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday called for the scrapping of the monthly N750 fixed charge being charged by electricity distribution companies.

The consumers told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that it would amount to exploitation if the companies continued to retain the charge when services were not delivered.

A businessman, Mr Chukwuemka Echem, who described the charge as mere exploitation of electricity consumers in the country, said it should be abolished.

He said that it was out of place for consumers to pay the monthly fixed charge after paying the monthly bill.

“Why the N750 fixed charge when consumers will have to pay their monthly bills?”

A Kuje Area Council resident, Mr Prince Aduche, told NAN that the regulatory body should stop the payment of fixed charge on electricity until power supply was stable in the country.

According to him, consumers

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Adefulire, has commended leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria, for its far reaching social empowerment initiatives in the state.

Mrs. Adefulire gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Airtel Nigeria at Banana Island, Lagos on Tuesday where she was received by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Telco, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, in his office.

The visit was part of efforts by the state government towards partnering with the telecoms operator in tackling critical social challenges often encountered by citizens of the state of which infant and maternal mortality and unemployment are of greatest concern.

The Deputy Governor explained that the population of Lagos which currently stands at 22million continues to increase due to the influx of visitors and people who desire to reside in Lagos, noting that this influx puts serious strain on public infrastructure especially healthcare services.

As at today, Lagos State prides itself with 26 General Hospitals, 256 Primary Healthcare Centres and 2 Tertiary Health Institutions, which provide services for the huge population of the state.

In her word: “Lagos State Government continues to make effort to ensure that these facilities are upgraded and medical personnel are available to provide quality services all the time. In Lagos Island
Maternity Hospital last year alone, there were a total of 4,984 births with only one death recorded which shows how effective and important this hospital is in saving lives in the state.

“The State remains the best in terms of maternal and child mortality reduction because of the efforts of the state government and the support from responsible corporate citizens like Airtel. We will continue to improve the healthcare services so that lives can be saved,” she said.

According to her, partnership with socially responsible corporate organisations like Airtel Nigeria would go a long way to alleviate the pain and struggles of the less privileged in the society and will also reduce unemployment among youths in the state.

She revealed that Lagos State government is currently empowering youths in their thousands, through series of programmes and therefore called for increased collaboration with the state from the telecoms services provider towards empowering youths through various initiatives.

Welcoming the Deputy Governor, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya commended the efforts of Lagos State in reducing child and maternal mortality. He said the state continues to take a leadership position in every sector including health, power, youth employment and other areas.

Mr. Ogunsanya specifically noted that the highly commendable effort of

Wife accuses husband of turning house helps into sex machines on October 16, 2014 / in News 1:06 pm / Comments

Lagos – Lagos Court on Thursday saved a 12-year-old marriage between Mr Femi Ajayi and his wife, Modupe.

The Court President, Mr R.I Adeyeri, was able to reconcile the estranged couple thorough counselling.

Adeyeri ordered Modupe to write an undertaking that she would change her attitudes and admonished the couple to maintain the peace.

The petitioner, Mr Femi Ajayi, 45, legal practitioner, had filed a suit seeking dissolution of his 12-year-old marriage over threat to his life, arrogance and extravagant life style.

He said that his wife always threatened his life with dangerous weapons whenever they were fighting by picking a knife or other sharp objects to stab him.

He described Modupe as a pompous, disrespectful and arrogant woman.

“She is so full of herself and does not have respect for me despite all I have done for her, I bought her four cars within our 12 years of marriage, yet she does not have regard for me.

“She does thing without telling me; she travelled out of Nigeria without my consent”.

Femi accused his wife of living extravagantly, using any money she got to buy jewellery to the extent that she spent N250,000 meant for his children’s school fees.

He said that he would have divorced her two years ago, but he thought she would change and that they were living as enemies in the house as they had stopped talking to each other since June, 2013.

In her defence, Mrs Modupe Ajayi, 40, businesswoman, told the court that her husband was a “womaniser” and had slept with her best friend.

“My husband runs after anything in skirt; I caught him making love to my best friend in her house.

“I refused to employ any house help again as he has turned them into sex machines,” Modupe said.

She said that she stopped having sex with her husband since September 2013 because she always had infection days after he made love to her.

“I stopped making love to him and I stopped washing his clothes when I discovered I always see and smell sperm on his boxers,” she said.

The mother of three said that a day after their wedding, her husband
abandoned her to stay with another woman and lied to her that he travelled to see his father in the village.

“I called his father when he did not show up for days, but he told me that he did not see my husband”.

Modupe said that she later discovered the lady’s number on his phone and she called her to leave her husband alone.

“After I warned her on phone, my husband rushed home, dragged me out of the bathroom naked, beat me for calling his girl friend.

“It was my brother-in-law that ran out to cover my nakedness,” she said. (NAN)

Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi, will pass for a history maker.

She made history as a female acting governor when  Fayose was removed from office by the state House of Assembly. She also served as commissioner for Works under the administration of former Governor Segun Oni.

She had so much influence during the time and many put some of the mistakes made by  Fayose on her doorsteps.

Most  stakeholders are looking up to him to use his wealth of experience to assist his boss.

And Eleka has pledged repeatedly to work with Fayose to improve on the fortunes of the state.

“I never aspired or contested for it. I was never a politician, but my father is a politician. Fayose called my father to come and be his deputy, but he said he is old.

”Fayose then asked him to choose somebody who would be loyal and work with him conscientiously for the progress of the state. My father chose me without telling me. He knew I was never interested in politics. Later, I got a call from His Excellency. He called me on phone that I should see him with my credentials.’’he noted.

Nigerians say Big Brother Africa dentrimental to African culture

Some Big Brother enthusiasts in Nigeria on Wednesday reacted, saying the Africa reality show had only succeeded in promoting the western ethos which were detrimental to African culture.

The Big Brother is a reality television show in which a group of people are brought together in a large house, isolated from the outside world.

They are made to live together while being continuously watched by television cameras.

In the Big Brother television show, theconfined contestants compete to avoid eviction so as to win the prize money.

The reality concept was introduced from the western world into the African culture to see how it could help in promoting and preserving it, but has proven otherwise, as enthusiasts say.

Juliet Chinwendu, a business woman, who claims to be addicted to watching big brother, said that the programme did not in any way portray African culture.

“The programme Big Brother Africa is supposed to promote and preserve African culture, but the participants have westernised it.

“It doesn’t showcase African culture. I was meant to understand that Africans are known for modesty and not nudity.

“The dressing and lifestyle of the participants in the programme is just an imitation of the western culture which is in contrast with the African culture.

“Big Brother Africa turned to be a romantic escapade, full of immorality and promiscuity. I must say that the programme only promotes unity among Africans but does not preserve the African culture,” she said.

Another big brother addict, Augustina Osato said the medium was to promote African unity but it does not preserve its cultural heritage in any way.

#Ebola: I should have died in place of Dr Adadevoh – First Consultant boss recounts losses

The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi recently visited First Consultant Hospital, Obalende where Nigeria’s index Ebola case was treated, to commiserate with the management over the heavy casualties and deaths – Stella Adadevoh (a senior consultant) and Dr. Abaniwo, as well as 2 nurses, who all contracted the virus from the late Patrick Sawyer – the hospital suffered.
While receiving the Ex-Governor, the hospital’s boss, Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri recounted their losses.
Dr-Ameyo-Stella-Adadevoh
“The events of the past months have been very overwhelming, to say the least. I have refrained from speaking all these while because I wanted to tell my story in a sequential manner.
“We have lost a lot of things – our laundry, laboratory, nursing, monitoring line; name it. But none of these compares to our human resource losses. When people come here and ask me how much equipment we have lost, I say to them that the most important equipment to me are the people. I recall that some of my colleagues with whom we took decision together are now late, I cannot understand it. I wonder why I’m still alive and not dead? I wonder why the dead are not like me.
“Here in Lagos, we lost seven people as a result of Mr. Sawyer’s Bioterrorism and four of such deaths were staff of First Consultant Hospital. That means that we bore the brunt of the disaster for the country. Look at Dr. Adadevoh, for instance. Here was a doctor who used to take care of me because I’m hypertensive. She used to give me my drugs weekly. But before this Ebola experience, she gave me a dosage that was to last me for one month. Then I said to her, ‘it is like I have graduated now to taking one month dose’ and we laughed over it. She had her son in this hospital and I was the one who took the delivery.
“Look at Dr. Abaniwo, who died before Dr. Adadevoh. He was with us for four years. He contracted the virus when he went over to intervene when Mr. Sawyer was harassing Dr. Adadevoh at a time he (Sawyer) had become angry and restive. That was how we got into this. Evelyn was a widow and a nurse with four children – very humble, loyal and diligent. She was with us when Dr. Adadevoh was delivered of her baby. She was the first person who welcomed Mr. Sawyer. She was part of this institution. Her death was heartbreaking. It was total devastation. Soon after her death, the landlord threw her children out of their home. And we are doing all we can to take care of them. We have got them an accommodation and they have settled in.
“For Dr. Adadevoh, she worked with me for 21 years. She was a smart professional who I took as my number one person. Look at this lady here (pointing at Dr. Ada Igonoh who survived the epidemic), I have adopted her as my daughter. She started work here on July 1, 2014, 20 days before the arrival of Mr. Sawyer. It was Dr. Adadevoh who brought her here. At the isolation centre, she was two beds away from Dr. Adadevoh. Yet, she was the one monitoring everyone in the hospital and giving us reports on hourly basis. That helped us to know what packages to bring to them and every line of action to take. In fact, it was right in her arms that our own late Justina died.”
